There has been a flurry of communications from my clients lately. They search for their sites on Google and either can’t find them or they have dropped off their previous position. Apparently Google’s Caffeine indexing system is a lot different. One thing I have found is that the age of the domain name/site has become more important. I have a client site that was consistently #2-3 on Google for a very popular search term. The site is only a year old. Now it’s gone. So I studied the site that is there on top and compared. The sites are pretty well the same. Similar content. same SEO strategies, bot have about 32 pages indexed, both are PageRanked. The top site has only about a dozen inbound links, ours more. So yeah.. the top site’s domain was registered in 2002 and ours in 2009.
